Thoughts on Oman

Muscat seems to be the main area of concentration for us till we take our leave for the boat for Eastern Africa near the 10th March. Finally were getting our visas under wraps (we need another visa for the UAE , which is quite a debacle let me tell you-if anyone that is not on a British or American passport please email us for how to do this as one thing you will quickly learn is that no one actually knows what is going on and advice on what to do is murky and slipperier than wrestler in spandex and a butter bath)

We have been met by friendly smiles everywhere we go in Oman. It has been so wonderful spending time in this diverse, beautiful country and we will be sad to leave.  Oman it seems has a system of unique marine life that is quite unlike anything we have seen before, and with a country that is booming Oman is being presented with quite a unique marine environmental situation. Where other countries the world over has had long histories with marine resource abuse and management failures, Oman, a relatively new Sultanate expanding both with respects to population and industry, is being presented with the ability to learn from the mistakes of other nations, whether they take that chance is another guess, but we can live in hope. Oman stands on the precipice of a well-managed marine environment or following suit of other nations towards dwindling marine resources. Oman has the ability, the resources and the passion towards effective and sustainable marine resource use, something that Omanis’ should hold in high regard.
